I have been using this computer for a while. It is simple, it uses buttons to navigate the screens and the battery last a day's ride.
Viewranger App
I used to use the Viewranger app on my phone to navigate. It works well and is free. But for long rides your phone's battery is not going to last the distance.
Online services
I use all these sites to find routes and get inspired for creating new ones. They are also useful to create your own routes. However with some of them you do have to pay a subscription if you want to download the GPX file.
Strava - Strong community but lately they have restricted a number of features for subscribers only. You can no longer new create routes. Your old routes can no longer be modified.
Komoot - You need to be a subscriber to download the GPX file
Trailfork
Viewranger - Great when you want to navigate using your phone. You can create and download the gpx file for free too.

footpathmap - shows footpaths, bridleways, byways
